What is IJMB?
It is called Interim Joint Matriculation Board

IJMB Admissions
Annually, more than 1.5 million students do write UTME (JAMB) with the aspiration of securing admission into their desired institution but unfortunately it is just a fraction that ultimately realize this dream. In fact some have written JAMB more than once and it looks seemingly impossible to gain admission because of various reasons which could include: Centre Issues, Mass Failure, Post UTME Failure e.t.c.
But here is a golden opportunity for ADMISSION SEEKERS who wish to acquire university degree. The IJMBE (INTERIM JOINT MATRICULATION BOARD EXAMINATION) – A LEVEL provides a unique platform for realizing your dream of university education even more better than JAMB because it aids in securing admission into 200 level upon completion of the program.
You do not need JAMB to be admitted for this program.
The program is certified by NUC (Nigeria University Commission). Its more economical to go for this program because it will save you the cost and stress of 100 level as you will be admitted directly into 200 level upon completion of the program. Even students with deficiency in O level can still register for the program because preparations have been made for them by IJMB where they can write O LEVEL IJMB to augment their result. Students with awaiting results can also register.
Over the years several students have made their way to the university through the IJMB route.
Unlike the case of JAMB/UTME where many applicants are called but only very few luck ones are chosen; here many are called and many are chosen. The diagram below will illustrate it better.

IJMB program is moderated by Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. It is designed to solve problems of admission for candidates seeking admission into Nigeria University instead of JAMB.
The examination is conducted in February every year in designated Polytechnics and colleges Of Education, while the results is released in due time for admission processing. Students are to purchase a direct entry form from JAMB office and apply to any school of their choice.
When admission begins in September and October, they are then shortlisted for admission into their chosen institution. The number of subjects a student can register for is three (3) with respect to their chosen profession.
Meanwhile, candidates with deficiency in O level English Language and Mathematics can also remedy these subjects by registering for the IJMB O level.

70 – 100% A (5 Points)
60 – 69% B (4 Points)
50 – 59% C (3 Points)
45 – 49% D (2 Points)
40 – 44% E (1 Point)
39% Below F (0 Point)

For a student that registered for three (3) subjects with grades such as Physics A, Chemistry B and Biology B, the total number of points scored will be as follows:
Physics A = 5 Points
Chemistry B = 4 Points
Biology C = 3 Points

• O’ Level Result (Max of 2 sittings)
• 12 Passports
• Birth Certificate
• Certificate of State of origin

Note: Check the recent JAMB Brochure to confirm IJMB as a requirement for University admission.
